Review
Mystery
of the Necronomicon is one of those rare Hentai titles which focuses
more on plot rather than sex. I was so surprised when I started
watching because Necronomicon unfolds like a nice, suspenseful, and
thrilling who-done-it mystery.
Mystery of the Necronomicon is about a tormented man named Satoshi,
who is a private detective by profession. Satoshi and his personal
assistant Asuka are taking a vacation in a ski resort when a whole
family is found dead in a hotel room -- their eyes gouged out and
the skin off their faces peeled off. But this is only the first in a
chain of brutal murders that Satoshi eventually finds himself
investigating. What's more, the present events seem linked to
Satoshi's lost past. Something happened six years ago that caused
Satoshi to lose his memory, leaving him only with occasional
nightmares which serve as a reminder. One thing is certain:
everything is related to the ancient book called the Necronomicon.
So where does the sex come in? It's kind of strange really. Like one
time Satoshi goes to the local library to do some research, the
librarian comes on to him and they have sex. In another instance,
one of the murder victims manages to blackmail and rape a woman
prior to getting himself killed. Make no mistake that there are a
lot of sex scenes in Necronomicon, it's just that they are not
necessarily related to the plot. It seemed as if the sexual parts
were just thrown in for the sake of having some.
The art and animation are excellent. There are lots of lovely ladies
and interesting locales (albeit a shortage of handsome men). Sex is
depicted graphically, and everything is shown in their full
uncensored glory -- including the male and female lower genital
areas. The English dubbing is pretty okay too, except for the fact
that a lot of Japanese names are mispronounced. I couldn't stand how
they called Asuka "A-sooo-kah" and Rumiko "Ru-meee-kow".
Mystery of the Necronomicon gives you a good blend of story,
suspense, and sex. Definitely one of the more worthwhile Hentai
titles I've encountered.
