Review

Pianist is the sweet and simple love story of an unlikely couple. It is set in a time where human population is dwindling... and 2/3 of the world's population is comprised of robots.

Pianist is not a bad piece of work, but it's too bland for its own good. There is no plot twist at all. It's just a straightforward and dully portrayed account of Seiji and Yuna's relationship. It's admittedly rather romantic but that alone is not enough to save Pianist from mediocrity. There's no sense of excitement whatsoever at any point, it's just something you watch and get over with.

The art and animation are nothing special. Seiji actually looks good, but Yuna is somewhere between sort of cute and average-looking. Sex scenes are depicted in a haze, which makes for somewhat uncomfortable viewing even if you do see every act and body part. The English dubbing is okay... I guess, although I thought the guy who was doing Seiji's voice sounded too old for the part.

Pianist had so little impact on me that writing this review has proved to be an incredibly difficult task. There is just so little to say since I had been so unaffected by it. I repeat, Pianist is not bad. It's just boring. Enough said.
